BLu7 is a jazz quintet for the 21st century. Formed in 2007 by trumpeter James Barela, BLu7’s music is an eclectic blend of modern jazz, world music, and contemporary beats. Their debut CD, Cultural Instigator, is currently being played in over 15 countries and receiving excellent reviews. The first tune from Cultural Instigator is Matador. A clever fusion of modal jazz, flamenco, and hip-hop. Matador is featured on the KUNV 91.5 fm compilation production “It’s About Time”. Kelly, the dark and sexy second cut from the CD, is being played worldwide and is one of the most downloaded tunes on allaboutjazz.com. The rest of the CD takes the listener on an adventure through Brazil, India, NYC, L.A.’s south central, and tells stories of people and places that have influenced jazz and vice versa. Cultural Instigator is a must for jazz listeners with an adventurous side and certainly those who are interested in the direction of jazz in the 21st century.
